An Uruwashii is a cultured warrior symbolized by the kanji for "bun" (literary study) and "bu" (military study or arts). The uruwashii were few in number and were relatively unknown. They were similar to samurai in many ways, but had aditional training.
Bun まげ Edit
The literal study for the uruwashii was extensive by samurai standards.
Kanji are the writing characters of old mandarin used by the japanese. Most samurai knew how to read and write in kanji. Whereas the samurai wrote poems and haiku, the uruwashii wrote books. The word kanji means "Han characters", because the first kanji written scrolls came from East Han dynasty.
